Fever is one of the most feared disorder among us. Especially among us parents .If our little one has a fever, it gives us the jitters. Why?

Because of:

  • fear of seizures
  • fear of the unknown factors
  • fear of how to reinstate the kids to their original self

And the parents begin the child on antipyretics with the very first feel of fever. Most of the households don’t even have a thermometer. The fever just need to stop, that indicates that the child is all fine!!! Is it so??

My dear friends… fevers and colds or flus are reactions of the body to something that’s disturbing its homeostasis(functionality/ equilibrium). So killing the fever doesn’t imply that you are putting the body to normalcy. Rather you are silencing the body’s capacity to react. Thus the root cause remains unfound and can lead to chronic disorders. Similarly nebulisation in a slight cough or cold for the fear of congestion is just you destroying the body’s capacity to fight. And then you worry about your child’s immunity!!!. How ironic.

Hence a few basic do’s and dont’s if you catch yourself or your child unwell…

1. Eat light, reduce your meals to easily digestible foods like kanji or porridges without milk.Do not think of nourishment

2. Keep away from fruits , milk and its products

3. Hydrate yourself well with warm infused waters

  • jeera+fenugreek- upset tummy
  • cinnamon sticks+ Dry ginger powder+pepper/ betel leaf and ajwain leaves-cold and flu
  • barley+coriander seeds- leg pains/urinary infections

4.Keep those gadgets away , they rust you not let you rest. They can make your head feel all the more heavy and non functional.

5. Rest needn’t be bed rest.Especially by the 2nd day of fever you need to take small walks of 5 minutes after meals .Sit up a little.

6. Your porridges from the second day need to be accompanied with a little green gram or an easy vegetable side( except for potatoes, peas, beets, leafy veg, cauliflower and cabbages)- this help regulate your motions( defecation).

7. Bathing is quite a energy consuming process so don’t do it on the first 1 and a half day of the fever…

8.Let your doc be the doc.. Don’t push in the pill because you think you are feverish, see if you can recoup with the above steps if not then see the doc.

9.A 100 or 101 farenheit temperature need not give you the chills . Yes its high but help the doc find out what it could be before you suppress it with anti pyretics.

These processes will help understand what and where the issueis and the frequency of use of anti pyretics.I’llsoon come up with the routine I follow to beat the nasty winds and cold.
